Senegal Threatens International Corruption Complaint Targeting 5 People, Without Accusing Morocco

The Senegalese Football Federation has announced that it is taking its legal battle against the decision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to the international courts, against the backdrop of the events surrounding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, which the Morocco national team won.
During a heavily attended press conference held this Thursday in the French capital, Paris, lawyer Seydou Diagne, representing the Senegalese defence team, revealed that his country is preparing to file a criminal complaint over "suspicions of corruption" targeting five individuals whose identities have not been disclosed.
The most striking part of Diagne's remarks is that the Senegalese defence team possesses "strong legal evidence" that could pave the way for an international criminal investigation, the repercussions of which could even reach the United States of America.
Despite this escalation, the Senegalese side was keen to avoid any diplomatic crisis with Rabat, stressing that the legal proceedings "make no direct accusation against the Kingdom of Morocco", and that the dispute is purely legal, aiming to challenge CAF's decisions that awarded the title to the Atlas Lions following the events of the final.
The choice of Paris as the venue for the conference was no coincidence; rather, it aims to internationalise the case and apply media pressure ahead of the final word to be delivered by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The Senegalese legal team appears to be seeking to strengthen its position after CAF's appeals committee rejected its previous demands, at a time when Moroccan sporting public opinion is waiting for the storm to subside, confident in the legitimacy of the continental triumph.
